The 9th annual edition of the Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival took place between Belgrade, Serbia (the contest part – 9-11.09.2020) and the plaza in front of the National Palace of Culture Sofia (the festival part – 17-19.09.2020).

230 wineries from 10 different countries competed for medals this year. The jury was comprised of 15 judges from 11 countries and the chairman of the jury was the first Master of Wine in the Balkans – Konstantinos Lazarakis MW.

Rare Varieties Melnik Jubilee 1300 is a wine from the indigenous variety Melnik Jubilee 1300, a crossing of Broad-leaved Melnik vine and the Georgian variety Separavi. It is aged 12 months in new oak barrels. The wine has a profoundly deep inky, purple-black color. The aroma is complex – exotic flowers, sandalwood, black fruit, plums, blackberries, ripe raspberries, licorice, chocolate, mocha. The body is balanced with round, ripe tannin and marked acidity. The aftertaste is long and so is the aging potential.
