06 Jul July Morning Above the Vineyards 2020
For the fourth year in a row, we celebrated July Morning together on the hill behind Villa Melnik Winery, overlooking the vineyards and the four mountains surrounding the estate. July Morning is the traditional celebration in Bulgaria when we welcome the rising sun on July 1st. The event traditionally takes place by the seaside, but Villa Melnik offers the alternative – above a sea of vineyards.
A record number of people joined us for the celebration this year – about 200, including 30 children from the Young Mountaineer Club in Petrich – Kлуб „Млад планинар“, гр. Петрич. The hill was covered in tents and camper-vans. We danced all night under beats of DJ Ivan Tegov from Petrich. Elena and Yane from the folklore duo “Lev i Vino” „Леб и Вино“ made the night truly magical for us. The surprise of the evening was Simeon Karamitev, a winelover with a big heart and lungs, who played songs from the Rhodope Mountains on his bagpipe.
We sent off the sunset with delicious BBQ and wine, and welcomed the sunrise under the sounds of Uriah Heep in front of the campfire, with tasty fish stew cooked by Villa Melnik’s dear friend Miro Miknov, as well as with aromatic just-brewed coffee and home-made cookies by Moka Coffеe & Cakes from Sandanski.
