We are happy to announce our new brand \u201cRare Varieites\u201d, a premium series of almost-extinct indigenous grape varieties, which we have preserved in our vineyards. We \u00a0present to you two wines with unique, unmistakable character: Melnik Jubilee 1300 and Ruen.<\/p>\n
Together with their more popular \u201cbrother\u201d, Melnik 55 (Early Melnik Vine), there two varieties are \u201cchildren\u201d of the\u00a0Broad-Leaved Melnik Vine (late ripening).\u00a0 Ruen is a crossing between Broad-leaved Melnik Vine and Cabernet Sauvignon, and Melnik 1300 Jubilee is a crossing between\u00a0Broad-leaved Melnik Vine and the renowned Georgian variety Separavi.\u00a0\u00a0All of these varieties are known under the common name Melnik, but they are actually one family comprised of several closely-related, yet unique varieties.<\/p>\n
In 1950-60, such crossings were created in several Bulgarian centers of\u00a0 viticulture studies and experimentation, the closest being the one in Sandanski. The aim was to create more commercially-viable varieties.\u00a0 Broad-leaved Melnik was known as a very sturdy variety,\u00a0 which can give very high yields, but also a late ripening one (end of September, beginning of October, and in some instances even late October).\u00a0 It gave lighter in terms of body and color wines. The newly created varieties, on the other hand, have smaller grapes with more intense color. The ripen significantly earlier (before the end of September) and create more fuller-bodied wines.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
