In August 2018, our team at Villa Melnik Winery had the pleasure to host an extraordinary wedding, recreating authentic Bulgarian folklore customs and rituals.
The wedding of Lili and Blago was a celebration of traditional Bulgarian family values and the love for one’s motherland.
The wedding began in the town of Melnik with rituals such as shaving the groom, braiding the bride‘s hair, “stealing” the bride, and the church ceremony. After that, the wedding party continued on the hill above Villa Melnik winery with 360-degree view of the vineyards and the surrounding mountains. Over 200 guests in national dress danced the night away to the rhythms of Bulgarian bagpipes.
