At Villa Melnik Winery, we believe that wine is far more than just an agriculture product — it is an experience, a story of terroir, and an invitation to discover. We are proud to share that we are among the founding and active members of the Bulgarian Organization for Wine Tourism (BOWT) — the association charting the modern map of wine hospitality in Bulgaria.
Our inclusion in BOWT is a natural step in our mission to transform the Struma River Valley and the Melnik region into a world-recognized wine and cultural destination.

Why BOWT? What is the Vision for Bulgarian Wine Tourism?

While organizations like the Bulgarian Association of Independent Winegrowers (BAIW) advocate for artisanal winemaking and the regulatory framework before state institutions, BOWT focuses its efforts entirely on the consumer experience, hospitality, and promoting Bulgaria as a premier wine tourism destination.
The organization brings together wineries actively developing wine tourism around the following key priorities:

• Global Brand Identity: Establishing Bulgaria’s international prestige as a year-round destination for enotourism, gourmet culture, and authentic experiences.
• High Standards in Hospitality: Promoting best practices for wine tastings, vineyard tours, and hosting events at winery estates.
• Focus on Unique Regions and Native Grape Varieties: Emphasizing distinct wine micro-regions and indigenous Bulgarian varieties such as Melnik 55, Broadleaved Melnik Vine, Mavrud, Ruen, and Keratsuda, told through the heritage of the land and its people.
• Sustainable Regional Ecosystem: Connecting wineries with local businesses — hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and cultural attractions — to build comprehensive, end-to-end tourist itineraries.
• Participation in Legislative Initiatives: Engaging in active dialogue with European, national, and regional institutions to improve the sector’s regulatory framework.

From our open-door celebrations for festivals like Trifon Zarezan and July Morning, to guided tours of our gravity-fed winery and vineyards near the village of Harsovo, and our specially curated tasting menus — every experience aims to immerse our guests in the true spirit of the region.

Together with our colleagues at BOWT, we are actively working toward the digitalization of the wine sector, improving accessibility for both domestic and international visitors, and developing thematic wine routes across Southwestern Bulgaria.
