15 Jul Villa Melnik In Top 50 World’s Best Vineyards 2020

It is a great honor and privilege for Wine Cellar Villa Melnik to be listed as one of the World’s Best Vineyards.  At #39 in the 2020 Top 50, Villa Melnik represents Bulgaria in this prestigious ranking. The award was announced with an online ceremony on 13.07.2020, streamed directly from Sonoma Valley, California.

Places on the list are awarded to wineries across the globe that showcase excellence in the field of wine tourism and that provide truly amazing vineyard experiences. The Top 50 vineyards are voted by 500 wine and wine tourism experts from five continents. The nominations and the voting remain secret until the results are announced. Wineries are ranked based on the holistic experience, including tours and tastings, the wine, the food, the staff, the hospitality, the ambiance, the producer’s reputation, the history of the place and the people behind it. The World’s Best Vineyards list includes world-renowned producers from established wine regions like Napa Valley, Bordeaux, and Stellenbosch, as well as small family-owned wineries from lesser known wine regions such as Japan, India, and now for the first time ever – Bulgaria.  World’s Best Vineyards is organized by William Reed – the global food, drinks and hospitality media company, which is also behind International Wine Challenge and the IWC Canopy Magazine. The 2020 awards are hosted by Sonoma County Growers, California.

The full Top 50 list can be found at the World’s Best Vineyards website. The online awards ceremony is available to watch on YouTube.

We deeply cherish this award as it reflects Villa Melnik’s vision to develop the Melnik Region as a world-class wine tourism destination. It is a testimony to our efforts at showcasing the local winemaking traditions and customs, as well as our dedication to preserving and reviving the indigenous Melnik grape varieties.  Villa Melnik is the established leader in wine tourism in the Melnik Region, known for organizing annual events such as Trifon Zarezan, Lazarovden and July Morning, as well as numerous workshops, corporate and private events. Our team is also the driving force behind the Melnik Wine Routes. This is not our first recognition in the field of wine tourism – we hold the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence, and in 2018, we were featured in Chris Losh’s “Where to Drink Wine: The essential guide to the world’s must-visit wineries”.

Finally, this award would not have been possible, had it not been for our cooperative neighbors – other wineries and hospitality businesses, who make the Melnik Region a complete, unforgettable wine experience!
