About the Variety
Melnik has known the vine for more than 6,500 years, since the times of the ancient Thracians. The main local grape is Broadleaf Melnik (Shiroka Melnik), from which several rare varieties originate. One of them is Ruen. Ruen is a unique local variety, developed in the town of Sandanski. Its parents are Broadleaf Melnik Vine and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes
Deep inky-red color, beautiful and intense. An intriguing nose dominated by notes of graphite and ink, leather, forest floor, coffee, juicy blue plums, and plum jam. The palate is tight and mature, with velvety tannins and a spicy, dry finish.

Characteristics: An impenetrable purple color. The nose is intriguing, deep, and complex with notes of ink, earthy nuances, cocoa, and blackcurrant. The palate is dense and full-bodied, with well-preserved fruit acidity, velvety tannins, and a spicy, very long finish. The wine is still young and shows great potential.

Vinification: The wine is made exclusively from grapes harvested from a vineyard cultivated in the traditional bush vine style. We follow the tradition – growing Broadleaf Melnik as a low bush close to the ground. The scorching sun and heated soil concentrate the aromas and flavors in the grapes.
Characteristics: Distinguished by incredible fruit concentration and complex layers of flavors and aromas. An intense, multi-layered bouquet with expressive earthy notes intertwined with hints of tobacco, dried forest herbs, and a memorable cherry character.
