04 Jul Two Gold Medals, a Silver and a Bronze for Villa Melnik from Balkans International Wine Competition 2021
The champions are celebrating!
Villa Melnik was awarded four medals from the 10th, jubilee edition of BIWC: The Balkans International Wine Competition 2021:
- GOLD – Aplauz Syrah Reserve, which also won SILVER from Syrah du Monde, France (shop now).
- GOLD – Aplauz Viognier Sur Lie 2020 (shop now).
- SILVER – Rare Varieties Broad-leaved Melnik Bush Vine 2018 (shop now).
- BRONZE – Aplauz Sandanski misket 2020 (shop now).
In the 2020 edition of BIWC, Villa Melnik won the Double Gold and Grand Trophy “Best of Bulgaria” for our Rare Varieites Melnik 1300 Jubilee 2017.
The Balkans International Wine Contest and Festival (official website) brings the attention of the international wine community to the wines of the Balkan peninsula. The Balkans are the region with the most ancient winemaking traditions in the world. With nearly 1.8 million tons wine production per year, the Balkans rank 5th in the world, right after the largest wine producing countries – Italy, France, Spain and the US.
The contest took place in two countries The competition portion of BIWC was conducted in Skopije, North Macedonia, in the beginning of June 2021, and the festival portion happened in Sofia, Bulgaria in the second half of the month. The jury consists of wine experts from all over the world, including Konstantinos Lazarakis MW (Greece), Caroline Gilby MW (UK), Rod Smith MW (UK), Darrel Joseph (USA), Andreas Wickhoff MW (Austria), and more.
