The New 2025 Keratsuda Vintage is Here!

Вила Мелник Керацуда

Spring in the vineyards of Villa Melnik has a brand new flavor… and it belongs to Keratsuda!

If the name Keratsuda sounds a bit mysterious to you, you are not alone. This precious but somewhat forgotten local variety takes its name from the Greek word “keratsa”, which translates to “lady,” or “noblewoman.” An ancient legend tells of a lady named Keratsa who never set off on a journey without a cluster of sweet white grapes. Whether she was a princess or simply a girl with refined taste, we do not know, but the wine’s nickname has endured to this day: “The Queen of White Wines.”

Today, at Villa Melnik, we turn this ancient legend into reality. The result is our brand new Keratsuda 2025.

Keratsuda (also spelled keratzuda) is a rare indigenous white variety, unique to the Struma Valley—specifically the regions of Melnik, Kresna, Simitli, and Sandanski. Although it is often undeservedly overlooked, it remains a favorite among locals. Furthermore, Keratsuda produces wonderful, easy-drinking white wines with delicate and ethereal aromas.

At Villa Melnik, we cultivate this variety in our own estate vineyards near the village of Harsovo. To showcase its full potential, we vinify it in two distinct ways:

  • Keratsuda: A classic single-varietal white wine. Fresh, aromatic, and balanced.
  • Orange Wine: As part of a unique blend created through the fermentation of white grapes in contact with their skins.
What to Expect?

At first glance, the wine appears delicate and airy, but it will quickly surprise you with its hidden character and complexity. Prominent aromas of citrus zest and stone fruits like pear and peach take center stage. The body is light to medium, featuring well-integrated, juicy acidity that highlights nuances of green apple. The finish is medium-length, defined by a memorable citrus freshness and herbal elegance. Crafted specifically for connoisseurs of authentic Bulgarian wines.
